Factor XI, human (frozen)
Factor XI is synthesized in the liver as a two-chain homodimer (2 identical Mr = 80,000 monomers). Factor XI is converted to Factor XIa by proteolytic activation by Factor XIIa. Factor Xia functions within the intrinsic pathway of coagulation by converting Factor IX to Factor IXa. Factor XI is purified from fresh frozen plasma first by BaCl2 treatment to remove vitamin-k dependent proteins. The Factor XI is then isolated via affinity and heparin-sepharose chromatography steps to yield a homogenous intact Factor XI preparation
